Thinking of performing changes to the exterior of your home?

Architectural Review Committee Requirements

In order to preserve property values and ensure the aesthetic harmony of our neighborhood, all homeowners are required to seek prior approval for all exterior additions, changes or alterations.

Homeowners must submit the appropriate application (General, Tree Removal, or Solar Panel requests) to the Architectural Review Committee (ARC), and include any supporting plans and specifications showing the nature, kind, shape, height, materials, exterior colors, exterior finishes, landscaping, and location or any proposed changes.

Below are examples of changes or alterations that require ARC approval.  Please note that this list is not exhaustive. Additions, changes or alterations to:

  • New structures or buildings
  • Exterior paint colors
  • Cladding and siding
  • Roofing
  • Doors and windows
  • Decks and porches
  • Stairs and railings
  • Sidewalks
  • Driveways
  • Landscaping
  • Mailboxes and newspaper holders
  • Property identification numbers
  • Fence, walls, retaining walls
  • Docks, piers or wharfs
  • Removal or destruction of trees greater than 6 inches in diameter measured 2 feet above ground level or “distinctive flora”
  • Removal of foliage or vegetation on marsh front
  • Landscaping

While the ARC has up to 30 days to review submissions, most determinations are given within a few days.  In some instances, additional information or modifications may be required, but the ARC makes a good faith effort to work with every homeowner to find a mutually agreeable solution.
